About the Land

Located one hour between both San Antonio and Austin, our apiary is nestled in the rural, wooded slopes of the Balcones Canyonlands, at our homestead in New Braunfels, Texas. We are west of IH-35, by the intersection of Purgatory Rd. and 306.  

This area of the Texas Hill Country has an incredibly diverse selection of forage. Our bees gather resources along the eastern edge of Edward's Plateau and the western edge of the Texas Blackland Prairies. Animals and plants from both ecoregions overlap here, and our bees choose their favorite flowers from a variety of plants.  

Our honey can have a different color, aroma, taste, flavor, and texture each time we harvest. Which plants are abundant and preferred by the bees during nectar flow affects the honey harvest. The sun, wind, rainfall, temperature, minerals, soil, and soil pH can affect the plants, thereby affecting honey harvest as well.

Below is a list of plants that we have located and identified within our bees’ forage zone. As you can see, there are several different kinds of herbaceous plants, grasses, shrubs, and trees. Our bees may collect nectar, honeydew, pollen, and propolis from a large variety of plants to make a rich and complex honey.
